So you're trying to figure out what to wear for your family session?

Picking outfits for your family session can be a doozy, but I'm here to simplify it for you in a few easy steps! But before we get started, I want you to know that by no means do you have to go out and buy new outfits! You are welcome to if you have your eye on a certain dress or Old Navy is having a sale, but you can easily put together a wonderful ensemble with what you already have in your closet!

  1. Choose your family color palette! Maybe your family has a lot of navy blue, or tan. Start from there! Or you know Mom looks amazing in Red, incorporate that! I recommend choosing 2-3 colors for your family. You can find lots of color palette ideas on my Pinterest board here!
  2. In addition to the color palette, picking one piece of clothing or outfit to base the rest of the family on can be super helpful to start. A patterned dress (say for Mom or your little girl) is a great starter piece. Just be careful not to have too much pattern, or too much solid. A nice balance of both is ideal!
  3. From there, pick out some colors from the patterned piece of clothing or color palette and find coordinating pieces for the rest of the family.
  4. Make sure not to be too matchy-matchy (so don't let all the boys wear the same outfits!) Matching girl dresses can be super cute though!

If you have questions or are seeking some feedback on your outfits, send me a message and I'd be happy to assist! And don't stress too much, your family is going to look beautiful!

Dad's shirt was the starter piece for this family. Everyone got a color from his shirt and voila! Look how great it turned out!

This family based their outfits off the youngest dress. They each took a color from the dress and used that for their outfit inspiration.

Larger families can get a little tricky. This family had one person in charge of their outfits. She chose a neutral color scheme and gave each couple in the family certain colors to wear. The tied the whole family together with the members who were not a couple to coordinate with the already used colors!
